Gratuity Calculator
Calculate your end-of-service gratuity
Three details are all it takes: your first working day, your last working day and your basic salary. The estimate follows the UAE Labour Law and updates as you type.
How your gratuity is calculated
-
1 year
One full year first
The entitlement starts once you have completed one full year of continuous service. Before that, no gratuity is due.
-
21 days a year
For your first five years
Each of your first five years earns 21 days of basic salary.
-
30 days a year
For every year after that
From the sixth year on, each year earns 30 days of basic salary.
-
2 years’ salary
At most
However long you have worked, the total never exceeds two years of basic salary.
Part years count pro rata once the first full year is complete. Your first and your last working day both count as days of service.
Example: seven years at a basic salary of AED 10,000
5 × 21 days + 2 × 30 days = 165 days’ salary = AED 55,000
165 days’ salary is 5.5 months of basic salary. The calculator counts every day, so leap days add a little.
Good to know
Only the basic salary counts
The calculation uses the last basic salary in your contract. Housing, transport, travel, overtime, representation and cashier allowances are not included.
Unpaid absence
Days of unpaid absence do not count as service.
Amounts you owe
Your employer may deduct any amount you owe them from the gratuity.
Paid within 14 days
Your employer must pay the gratuity within 14 days of the end of your contract.
Part-time contracts
Part-time employees receive the full-time gratuity in proportion to their contracted hours: 1,000 of 2,000 hours a year means 50%.
Where other rules apply
The calculator covers foreign employees working full time in mainland UAE. Free zones with their own employment law, such as the DIFC and ADGM, follow different rules. The amount can also differ for service before February 2022, or if your employer has joined the voluntary end-of-service savings scheme. The result is an estimate, not legal advice.
